This tutorial shows you how to back up iPhone contacts to the iCloud. To be able to use the iCloud service you will need an iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch using iOS 5 or above.
To save your iPhone contacts open the iPhone Settings. There you'll find an option called iCloud. Tap on it and you'll find an overview of all data that you can store to the iCloud like mail, contacts, calendars, reminders, bookmarks etc. You can also perform a full iOS backups to the iCloud, which makes sense as it also contains your iPhone contacts app settings and SMS. If you only want to store your contacts just slide them from off to on and you're all set. It may happen happen that your iPhone will notify you that your contacts backup from the PC (if you performed an iOS backup using iTunes) will be merged with the one that you're currently doing in the iCloud, you can click "Merge".
Now, return to your contacts app and don't be afraid if its empty. In the upper left corner you'll find a circled arrow, tap on it and your contacts will re-appear. That's it, your iPhone contacts are now synced with the iCloud.
