Installing Microsoft Exchange on Windows Server Edition 2008
The following page details the installation of the Exchange services on Windows Server 2008 Standard Edition. For installing on Server 2008, the SP1 must be installed, instead of the standard Exchange installer.
1. Log in as an administrator and double click the ExchangeSetupSP1.exe. This will bring up Exchange install manager. Make sure steps 1-3 have are grayed out (if not see other documentation for installation procedures pertaining to those steps) and then click 'Step 4: Install Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 SP1.'
2. The introduction window gives an overview of some of the different features the Exchange server includes. Click Next.
3. In the License Agreement window, click 'I accept the terms in the license agreement' and then click Next.
4. In the Error Reporting window, select 'No' and then click Next.
5. From the Installation Type window, select the 'Typical Exchange Server Installation.' Click Next.
6. Enter the Exchange Organization that you wish to use (for this lab, Initech Exchange Service). Click Next.
7. Select 'No' for clients running on Outlook 2003 or later. Click Next.
8. Exchange will run through a pre-installation scan to determine if all the required services are install on your server. If any services are missing, go to the Administrative Tools, and install the different roles or features needed. Once this scan completes, click Install.
9. The installation will run the Exchange setup. Once completed, click Finish to exit the installation wizard.
Your server is now setup to run Exchange 2007. Please refer to the other pages that detail configuring the page, and setting up a mailbox for your users.
